Hi Sylvia - I'm sorry it sounds like you've had some rough times. It's good that you were able to see your grandsons over the holidays.

I've never seen Polyanna, but from what I know of the general happiness principle, it's probably a movie a lot of us could stand to see these days!

Hope things are looking up for you soon, so you can get back to the life you love, health, travel and all. In the meantime, take care of yourself, stay positive, and thanks for writing!

Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday.
This past one was no fun at all, except for the fact that both of my grandsons were in town.
I am thankful for many, many things even though this was not the Thanksgiving that I anticipated.

Nevertheless, I live in a wonderful country and now that I am on facebook and may join Twitter as well, will be expanding my horizons with new "friends". I love to travel but need to clear up some bothersome health issues so I can take wing again in 2009.

I think that I will watch Polyanna again in the hope that some of her wisdom of gladness drifts into my heart. More thankfulness is my watchword as of now.

Raja - You're right about the blame game. We can sit here and rail about fate, or Wall Street, or the government, or whatever we choose to blame. But that doesn't help anything. It doesn't even make us feel better, since it reinforces the victim mode.

Paul - The first news I saw from Black Friday was about huge crowds getting out of hand. So you're right - it can't be totally bleak...

Cheryl - Funny, but that antique card makes me long for those good-old days too, even though I never experienced them! It would be cool at least for Thanksgiving, though I don't know if I could live without the internet longer than that.

Buttersauce - The best thing about Thanksgiving is that reminder to all of us to be thankful for what we have. It's too easy to get wrapped up in problems and forget that -- sometimes we need the reminder.

It's great to hear something positive. The more the better. We have people telling us that we're going into a depression, but there's no reason to believe that. Traffic today is crazy, stores are packed with people, websites are crashing due to the load. People have money to spend, and lots of it. We may not be in a period of economic growth, but things were already so good that taking it down a few steps isn't the end of the world.

There are a lot of things to be thankful for.

I tend to do this a lot too. I get so caught up in all the bad things in my life, I forget about all the good things in my life like my family and friends, and all the success I have achieved. This article helped me realize that what I have achieved is something to be proud of, thanks!
