Thanksgiving quote:
Reflect upon your present blessings, of which every man has many - not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some."
~ Charles Dickens
I'm pretty sure the same thing applies to women, too! ![]()

Many people in this country may be reflecting on their present misfortunes, as well as the past ones! It's hard not to, if you watch or read the news, where every day seems to be full of economic doom and gloom. We can get caught up in that cycle, and forget that there are still things that are going well. There are still wonderful things in our lives, and we have much to be thankful for!
I'm thankful for my family. I'll be seeing some of them tomorrow for Thanksgiving (which will be wonderful), and I'll be thinking about the others who aren't there in person. Nobody could ask for a better family.
I'm thankful that I live in a country where I have freedom and rights, and where I can pursue my own dreams and career. There are many places in the world where this would not be possible.
I'm thankful that I have good health, and that I'm getting into a morning exercise routine that's making me stronger every day.
I'm thankful that I live in a comfortable and safe home. One I can feel good about coming home to. One where I have everything that I need.
I'm thankful for all our customers - past, present and future - who let us share some remarkable places and experiences with them. You're who it's all about!
I'm thankful for the wonderful people I work with - both here, and in far-flung parts of the world. It's not like I can do this all by myself.
I'm thankful for the many friends I have, scattered near and far. Even when we don't see each other often, the bonds are still there. And thank goodness for e-mail that lets us stay in touch easier, too.
I'm thankful that I have a life that lets me meet many people, experience many things, travel many places, and have many adventures. It's very exciting!
I'm thankful that I have this technology - this very computer that I'm typing on, and the blogging platform that lets me communicate with people no matter where they are. I can't imagine running this business without our modern technology.
I'm thankful in advance for that marvelous feast that I know we'll have tomorrow! Mmmm... I suppose I should fast today in preparation, but instead I'm getting hungry just thinking of it. ![]()
Happy Thanksgiving everybody!

I wrote this earlier today, before hearing the heartbreaking news from Mumbai. My heart goes out to everyone there.
And to my list from the post, I'm grateful that I've never been caught in a terrible situation like that. And I'm grateful for all the people who help to prevent and control such situations - often at risk to their own lives. Thank you so much.

I love that quote by Charles Dickens. Very appropriate on Thanksgiving. I love that vintage postcard too. Sometimes I really miss the good ol' days. But I've got my love to keep me warm and I am grateful for my family and friends!

I tend to do this a lot too. I get so caught up in all the bad things in my life, I forget about all the good things in my life like my family and friends, and all the success I have achieved. This article helped me realize that what I have achieved is something to be proud of, thanks!

Extremely good advice in a period of time where everyone are blaming fate for their misfortunes. No one relishes what they have currently. This is a must read for all people.

It's great to hear something positive. The more the better. We have people telling us that we're going into a depression, but there's no reason to believe that. Traffic today is crazy, stores are packed with people, websites are crashing due to the load. People have money to spend, and lots of it. We may not be in a period of economic growth, but things were already so good that taking it down a few steps isn't the end of the world.
There are a lot of things to be thankful for.

Cheryl - Funny, but that antique card makes me long for those good-old days too, even though I never experienced them! It would be cool at least for Thanksgiving, though I don't know if I could live without the internet longer than that.
Buttersauce - The best thing about Thanksgiving is that reminder to all of us to be thankful for what we have. It's too easy to get wrapped up in problems and forget that -- sometimes we need the reminder.

Raja - You're right about the blame game. We can sit here and rail about fate, or Wall Street, or the government, or whatever we choose to blame. But that doesn't help anything. It doesn't even make us feel better, since it reinforces the victim mode.
Paul - The first news I saw from Black Friday was about huge crowds getting out of hand. So you're right - it can't be totally bleak...

I never really think to be thankful for my computer or for the food I eat -- thanks for helping me realize that even the small things are worth being thankful for!

Amber - Those little things we take for granted would seem like big things if we didn't have them! And thanks for your comment!

Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday.
This past one was no fun at all, except for the fact that both of my grandsons were in town.
I am thankful for many, many things even though this was not the Thanksgiving that I anticipated.
Nevertheless, I live in a wonderful country and now that I am on facebook and may join Twitter as well, will be expanding my horizons with new "friends". I love to travel but need to clear up some bothersome health issues so I can take wing again in 2009.
I think that I will watch Polyanna again in the hope that some of her wisdom of gladness drifts into my heart. More thankfulness is my watchword as of now.
Happy Everything to ALL.

Hi Sylvia - I'm sorry it sounds like you've had some rough times. It's good that you were able to see your grandsons over the holidays.
I've never seen Polyanna, but from what I know of the general happiness principle, it's probably a movie a lot of us could stand to see these days!
Hope things are looking up for you soon, so you can get back to the life you love, health, travel and all. In the meantime, take care of yourself, stay positive, and thanks for writing!
