This week has been amazing, and not in the best way! With news of the financial crisis deepening at home and spreading to Europe, and a bailout plan that nobody seems too confident or happy about, it’s been a doozy. Times like these lead to uneasiness, worry, and fear.
I decided years ago that my meditation focus for such times would be “tranquility”, and that my image to go with that would be one from sailing days.
So here’s my tranquility meditation image and the feeling to go with it:
- Anchored at a beautiful, safe, and quiet spot by a tropical island.
- Sitting in the cockpit, relaxed and content, watching the view.
- A balmy late afternoon, with just a light breeze blowing.
- Calm turquoise water all around, lapping gently at the boat’s hull.
- A feeling of deep peace, contentment, and tranquility.
Just what I’d like to regain in these troubled times. (Now I just need to work on my meditation skills!)

This photo was taken from a sailboat, anchored at Anegada — the most isolated of the British Virgin Islands — on one of our British Virgin Islands trips. The beach goes on forever, the water really is this color, and there was nobody else around. My picture of tranquility!

The colors in that photo do say tranquility, don’t they. Although I’ve never sailed anywhere but an inland lake, I guess those feelings transfer, though I imagine the ocean might be a bit more intense. Thanks for reminding me to get centered in this scarey economic times. Breathe in, breathe out.
Peace

The color there really is amazing, isn’t it? It’s hard to stay stressed when you’re in a setting like that. The stress just doesn’t go with the surroundings. Soft breeze, gentle movement on the water, beauty and quiet. To me, this is tranquility. (-:
Like you said, breathe in, breathe out… Getting panicked doesn’t do any good!
